Procrastination is self-robbery. Begin!
PROCRASTINATION is like robbing ourselves. I encourage my coaching clients to imagine that life consists of 12 months, January – December, and that the 31st of December is the day the most important goal is due.
I highlight that they can begin working on their goal in January or later, say in September.
The person who begins in January, when faced with challenges (known/unforeseen) meets the challenges earlier and still has more time to apply interventions and make corrections to complete the goal on time.
In contrast, the person who starts later, has less time to make corrections and then continue to work towards completing the goal on time.
Although not an absolute certainty, we should expect challenges and obstacles to arise in relation to any outcome we desire and work to achieve. If our desired outcome is highly valued by us, then working to overcome the challenges is a reasonable price to pay.
Let us not create greater hardships for ourselves, by waiting longer than is necessary to…begin.
We can’t do [all] we need to do easily or by ourselves. Despite appearances, no one has [all the resources for everything] relevant to their lives. Some things require support. So, ask for help from safe people or pay for expert help. Get the support you need, including taking the time to learn new information, skills and cultivate appropriate attitudes, and move forward to achieve greater satisfaction in your life and career.
